Annwn Foundation

The Foundation offers a series of introductory 2 day workshops to enable an experience of and insight into the practice of the Deep Imagination. Please see below for examples.
The Living Tree, the Spinning Wheel and a Wicked Pack of Cards

These workshops explore the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and the Tarot as imaginal constructs; as ways of connecting with deep will and deep imagination. Both meta-images arise out of the Renaissance and were used to discover new possibilities within the human soul and the soul of the world-the Anima Mundi. They were not put together until the 19th Century and thus have the advantage of being ahistorical, anachronistic and disreputable. As such they give us access to the shadow side of our own hearts and minds and help us to move beyond the known.

Three key archetypes are at the heart of this work-the Magician/Juggler, the Wheel of Fortune  and the Fool. We will explore the art of magic, of movement and change and the mystery of folly.

Workshop 1

Foundations of Magic

In this workshop we will  explore the Tree of Life and the Tarot as imaginal constructs  from the point of view of the Magician  contemplating the principle of will and intention –the work of the wand and the  magic of the hand.

Workshop 2

Turning the Wheel

In this workshop we will explore the dynamics of the Tree and the Tarot, considering the experience of change in world and life. We will contemplate centre and circumference, movement and stillness and the cycles of rise and fall in our life and the life of the world.

Workshop 3

 Footsteps of the Fool

In this workshop we will contemplate the mystery of unknowing and spontaneity; the opposites of innocence and experience, wisdom and folly. We will enter into the practice of the empty hand; the arising of the deep to the surface and stepping into the source of being.

The workshops are led by Ian Rees: an UKCP Registered Psychotherapist working and living in Glastonbury. He has studied the Western Mystery Tradition for over 40 years and was a student of W E Butler and his principal student Tom Oloman.

He has worked with people in relation to wounding and growth for approx 30 years. He has an abiding belief in the power of the embodied imagination and the curative nature of awareness and his ongoing inquiry is to trust the moment of unknowing and surrender fully to it.

They are non residential and held in Room 5, The Old Clinic,  10 St John’s Square  Glastonbury BA6 9LJ from 1000am to 500pm each day. Cost of individual workshops are £150 or if the series is booked £360 Deposit for individual workshops £50 and for 3 £120. . Cheques should be made payable to Ian Rees and sent to Ian Rees, 10 Glastonbury Road, Meare, Glastonbury, Somerset. BA6 9SN.
