                                     The  Awen Training
A two year training in working with the Deep Imagination

Awen is the flowing spirit of inspiration and is a mysterious and life giving energy that continually makes the world new. It is described as being like a well that never dries up or a cauldron that never stops producing nourishment. The purpose of this training is to unseal this deep well of creativity and to allow it to express itself through our bodies, hearts and minds so as to transform all that it touches.

The programme consists of 9 non-residential weekends per year in Glastonbury. The Awen training is designed as a comprehensive course in the development of the creative imagination and involves contemplating the roots of inspiration and the capacity of the imagination to heal and transform ourselves and the world.

It draws on traditional texts from Welsh and Irish Bardic  and Celtic Christian traditions so as to make these traditions and practices accessible experientially as well as cognitively. This are counterpointed by considering ancient Mediterranean Gnostic traditions from pre-Socratic times and their expression in the near and middle east culminating in the extraordinary metaphysic of the imagination presented by the great Sufi master Ibn Arabi.

While we will study texts and poetry the fundamental emphasis is on experiential learning and the awakening and encouragement of our own creativity. A particular focus will be the tradition of the Anam Chara or Soul Friend. We will learn to befriend our Soul and then apply that knowing to helping others relate to theirs.

Following the 2 year programme there will the opportunity to become an associate of the Annwn Foundation and become part of its ongoing work.
